Federal incentives

You may be eligible for up to $1,000 in tax credits.

If you install qualified vehicle refueling or electric vehicle recharging property in your home or business, you may be eligible for the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Tax Credit. The credit was extended and modified by the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The property must be installed in a qualifying location and the credit allowed is based on the placed-in-service date for the qualifying property.

If you install a home EV charging station in a qualifying census tract, the federal tax credit is 30% of the cost of hardware and installation, up to $1,000. There are certain criteria to qualify for the tax credit.  You must purchase and install the charger in your primary residence between Jan. 1, 2023 and Dec. 31, 2032, and fall within an eligible census tract to claim the credit on your federal tax return.  See if your primary residence is within qualifying census tract. State incentives

  • Tacoma Public Utilities is offering up to a $400 bill credit when you buy and install a Level 2 charger.  Customers must purchase and install equipment prior to applying for the bill credit. 
  • Mason PUD 3 offers a rebate to customers who have purchased/installed qualifying level 2 wall or pedestal-mount EV charging equipment. Qualifying wall-mount chargers are eligible for up to a $500 rebate.
  • Snohomish PUD is offering up to a $200 rebate to customers who purchase and install qualifying Level 2 ENERGY STAR certified connected EV chargers in their homes. Customers must apply for the rebate within 90 days of purchase and must agree to participate in PUD EV charger programs.
  • Clark Public Utilities offers a managed charging program for residential customers who own or lease an EV. The program will run through the end of 2024 and participants will receive a $50 bill credit incentive for each EV that joins the program (a $25 bill credit will be applied to your utility account when you sign up and a second $25 bill credit will be applied at the end of the year).
  • Puget Sound Energy (PSE) residential customers may receive up to $300 for a qualifying Level 2 EV home charger. An enhanced rebate up to $600 is available through Empower Mobility for customers meeting income qualifications.
