What if I don’t have a charger or don’t know if my current charger supports Ranger EV?
Get in touch with us and we’ll help you through the process of installing a Ranger-compliant EV charger. In some cases, you may qualify for a rebate and/or tax credit to cover some of the installation costs. If you already have an EV charger, and not sure if it will work as a Ranger Station, we can help with that too!
Can I rent out my charger separately when I don’t have an overnight booking?
All chargers will initially be private and will have to be reserved through the current reservation method for your property. In the future, we will offer you the ability to make your charger reservable at times when you don’t have a booking. During those “public” times, we’ll direct EV travelers to use your Ranger Station (and pay you) so you can make even more money with Ranger EV.
How much does it cost to install an EV charger if I don’t already have one?
The costs to prepare your home for an EV charger will largely depend on the age of your electrical service and the distance to where you want your charger installed. Don’t worry though, we can help you with a quote from a local installer.
How much does having a Ranger Station at my property cost?
After installing the EV charger, it’s free to convert it into a “Ranger Station” and start making money from charging EVs. Ranger EV charges a service fee only when you vend energy to a customer. In the future, we may introduce a monthly fee for hosts who want to add additional capabilities or marketing opportunities associated with their Ranger Station.
What if I want to offer “free charging” for my rental guests?
Not an issue. You can set your per-kilowatt price to zero for hosts, select accounts, or all of your guests. Guests will still need to sign up for a Ranger EV account; this helps us track usage by each member for you.
Couldn’t I just charge $20 a day to my guests to use my EV charger?
You could, but this isn’t how your guests expect to pay. Most EV drivers are used to time-based or, increasingly, kWh-based pricing. This “metered” experience is how they pay at both their home and public chargers.
Also, if your charger is in a visible location, like the outside of your home, you also need to think about access control. Ranger EV helps protect against unauthorized “charges” on your equipment by ensuring that each user is registered and able to pay for their session.

How will EV travelers know that I have a Ranger Station?
EV travelers will be able to find your listing when searching for chargers on RangerEV.app. Your Ranger Station will also be eligible to be a “featured station” on our various channels, further increasing your reach.
We encourage you to update your listing with information about your EV charging amenity. If a filter is available on your booking platform for “has EV charging” then this should also be set to true, as many EV travelers are beginning to use said filters to identify properties to stay.
For existing and future bookings, we also recommend adding information about Ranger EV to your welcome emails or digital guidebooks. We have samples and examples for you to use, simply ask us; we’re here to help!
Guest FAQ
How much does it cost to use Ranger EV?
You pay for the energy you consume during the charging session. The per-kilowatt price is set by the Host at each location is shown on the Ranger Station page you use to initiate your session. The cumulative amount is shown for all active sessions and on your receipt.
When using a charger or plug that Ranger EV is not controlling directly, you may be asked to estimate the energy you consumed or select a dollar amount to reimburse your host.
How much energy is delivered by Ranger EV chargers?
Most Ranger Stations are “Level-2” or “destination chargers” which provide up between 9 and 11kWh of energy per hour. You can see the max power level of the Ranger Station page within the app. You may be limited by your vehicle’s onboard equipment, load management protocols, or other situations specific to that location.
Ranger EV does its best to communicate any factors that limit electricity delivery that are under our control, such as load management policies set by the Host.
Do I need an adapter?
The answer to this one is, depends. Most Ranger Stations use J-1772 type plugs, which are compatible with most vehicles on the road today. Tesla owners may be required to provide an adaptor, but some Hosts also provide the necessary adapter on-site. For Ranger EV hosts who only provide access to a metered household outlet (120V Level-1 charging), you may also need to provide a travel charging cable/EVSE.
How do I know if the place I’m staying at has Ranger EV?
We encourage our Ranger EV hosts to celebrate the fact that they have a Ranger Station at their property. You may see it listed in the amenities or the welcome packet from your host when booking their property. If they list that they have an EV charger, and you don’t know whether it’s a Ranger Station or not, you can always ask them. You can also look on RangerEV.app to see if their property is listed amongst our “Featured Chargers.”
What if the place I’m staying doesn’t have Ranger EV?
Please let the owners know about your interest in charging your EV at their property. Making folks aware of the demand is a big step towards electrifying our travels. Then, depending on your relationship with the host and your comfort level, you can then tell them about this awesome community called Ranger EV that they can join to be a part of the solution.
